'Welsh Serenity – the coffee parlour with sips of the spiritual’
DONATE TO OUR NOBLE CAUSE
The Vision:
‘God will guard them... and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk. Reclining on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. And close to them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), easy to reach. And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and glass goblets... And they shall be made to drink a cup of mixed ginger, (Of) a fountain named Salsabil. And round them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls.’ – Qur’an 76:11-19
There are more than 300 faith-based coffee shops in the United Kingdom (almost all with a Christian ethos) We’d love to be able to establish the first Islamic-themed cafe in richly historic Wales.
The Concept:
Our cafe – ‘The Welsh Serenity’ - will provide an inviting, relaxing, neighbourly venue with varieties of quality fresh coffee and speciality drinks for purchase – although we reserve the right to give away a few steaming mugs for free. Free and interesting literature will be placed within easy reach for our customers, including introductory material about Islam, and light entertainment of a Welsh flavour that will add to the ambiance.
The Serenity is our way of addressing the lack of inter-faith understanding in the community. In 2003 we set up a pre-cursor to this project at 9 Whitchurch Road in Cardiff and we wish to take the many amazing accomplishments of that endeavour and transfer it to a larger platform and greater audience.
The types of people we want to reach out to this time are those off the wall individuals who have a hankering for:
A comfortable upscale coffee venue to socialize or stick a head in a book
Delicious beverages at competitive prices
The opportunity to find out more of what Muslims are all about
Our aim is to fundraise towards an amount of £250,000. This financing is required to prepare the selected site, purchase equipment, and cover overhead expenses during the first year of operation.
The Welsh Serenity will be registered as a charity organisation so all profit can be reinvested back into the venture.
